The Question of Triathlon Camps and Clinics

Okay I have my own coming up in a couple weeks the weekend of Jan 21, 22, 23 at Millennium Place  in Sherwood Park, Alberta.  The whole goal of it is to teach people how to train for a triathlon, how to get set up on the right path so they avoid all the learning curve and just start getting productive.  After that type of clinic the ones everyone wants to go to are the hard training, large volume break you down camps.  These have a lot of merit, but you have to make sure you aren't just paying to go somewhere to train hard, you can do that anywhere.  Make sure you are looking into who is running it, where it is held, what are your goals for the year, does this camp meet your goals for your future.  If you struggle with technique and endurance, don't set yourself up for failure by shooting to high.  If you are going into 1/2 Ironman distance, why go to an Ironman Camp Training scenerio, there may be benefits, but remember your goals, you need to be on that path when that camp comes up, if you are trying to complete a build camp in the middle of your base, you might end up in some trouble.

That said, I checked out Coach Cliff English today and if I could take a camp, his is the one I would take, you have your choice depending on your level which is a good thing to consider, remember the level you are and do not shoot for something higher than you can achieve that is why they put these levels down.  You want success, so prepare yourself to be successful.

If you have a camp you think I can review, send it to me, I would love to look it over.

Triathlon Training, the New Year Begins

Not often are coaches going to give their perspective on what they learn in training, but I thought I would give this one a go.  I work with New coming Triathletes to Ironman Athletes, I have spent a few years growing as a coach and every year I learn more about people and coaching and this year I am about to start putting those thoughts down, where you can see them.  This is not a way to air things about individuals it is going to focus solely on my purpose in coaching and my coaching perspective on my new challenges every day.  I hope you enjoy and find some helpful hints here.

I am currently producing the first week of program plans, I run people on a 4 week schedule, every week I have a selection of 4 week program plans to prepare for athletes to take them from where they are to where they are going.  This is a balancing act that really can be difficult and sometimes you feel as though the athlete should be more involved in these decisions and I already feel like I should be more involved in their decisions.  This year communication is going to have to get better to make sure I have a winning field of athletes. My athletes train out of Sherwood Park, Alberta, Canada.  I do not do program plans for everyone on the team, I am available to coach those who want to attend my classes, I am available to coach those who want a program plan.
